Jesus was the only son of Mary. The Greek word adelphoi (“brothers”) in the New Testament has a broad meaning, referring to relatives or close kin, not necessarily biological siblings. In fact, James and Joseph (called Jesus’ “brothers” in Matthew 13:55) are identified elsewhere as the sons of another Mary, “the wife of Clopas” (Matthew 27:56; John 19:25). If Jesus had true brothers, there would have been no reason for Him to entrust His mother to the care of the Apostle John at the Cross.

Do not spread false teachings. Mary only gave birth to Jesus and he was an only child. They did not have a word back then to differentiate between siblings and cousins so it is likely they were cousins.

To say that Jesus wasn’t an only child doesn’t mean you don’t believe in Mary’s perpetual virginity. However, within the context of the gospel’s teachings, Jesus was the only child that Mary and Mary remained virgin to.

Had me until you said big family. Yes he has siblings but I come from a family of 16 children (3 adopted daughters [1 of which was dad’s step daughter from his first marriage], 3 daughters from mom’s first marriage, 6 more daughters together, and 4 sons together. So no Jesus doesn’t come from a “big” family.

They were either half siblings from a prior marriage Joseph had, or cousins, which in Aramaic used the same word as “brother/sister.” Either way, Mary only had 1 child and remained a virgin afterward.
