My last TPK was when the players started infighting right before the boss was supposed to make his dramatic entrance, and then failed their perception checks to notice him standing outside of the clearing while they were fighting each other. He ended up killing 2 PCs and enslaving the rest 😅

Those potential TPKs are why I never play my character correctly. I like to have fun and enjoy the story so my monk just punches things. Until you decide to escalate. Then you find out why I took seemingly random feats and have all sorts of ‘useless’ items on me. I will rain hellfire upon you. Then we WILL be going back to our happy little story.
