I’m reminded of the book of Matthew and how the pharisees were mentioned SO often. Jesus was very clearly teaching against their ways & I think that should emphasize the importance of staying very vigilant of legalism existing in our own walks with Christ. Legalism centers itself around us, faith centers itself around God. It’s easy to think that legalism is simply doing overt “Christian things” out of pride or fear but we can even be legalistic within our selves for the sake of ourselves. Are there things that you feel you need to prove to yourself or others? (Rhetorical) that would only really serve you and not God. Evidently, legalism is not just being the most active in church and tithing the most and serving the most at soup kitchens and praying & studying long hours & rigorous fasting. It’s not necessarily having specific rules you abide by too strictly like the Pharisees who condemned even lifting a finger on the sabbath. It’s a lifestyle that is dependent upon your actions for access to the Lord, a lifestyle that contradicts God’s verdict of the work being finished on the cross.
