We have an update on Sugarfoot, the starved pitty found collapsed in Brooklyn at 2 am. We are sick to our stomach. What the hell happened to this dog? There are urine stains on his feet and sores on his legs that lead our vets to believe he may have been locked up somewhere. We cannot imagine Sugarfoot roaming around Brooklyn for the weeks it took to sustain this level of malnutrition. We would have heard about him, ESPECIALLY because he’s a pitty. Stray dogs don’t flood the streets of NYC like they do in Southern states. There is more to Sugarfoot’s story than meets the eye, but all we can do is help Sugarfoot find a happier path for his future. Sugarfoot is safe with Dr. Davis, a veterinarian at hbanimalclinic, who immediately agreed to see Sugarfoot when we reached out with his story. There’s good news and bad news: the good news is that aside from being emaciated, he looks okay. His temp is normal, he’s on IV fluids, and they’ll be able to monitor for refeeding syndrome. However, Sugarfoot was not interested in eating, which prompted Dr. Davis to do X-rays of his abdomen. They saw chewed-up bones in his stomach. The hope is that with the introduction of IV fluids, Sugarfoot will be able to pass the bone pieces and surgery won’t be necessary. Cautiously optimistic is the theme of the day. Sugarfoot will be hospitalized for several days to monitor his feeding schedule and ensure he passes the pieces of bone sitting in his gut. We could still use your support to cover his cost of care.
