So many of us grow up feeling like we don’t fit in—and that awkwardness often follows us into adulthood, especially when it comes to how we dress. There’s so much pressure to “get it right,” to wear what’s trendy, to hide what we’re told to hide, or to follow some outdated rulebook about what’s “appropriate” for our age, body, or lifestyle. But here’s what I’ve learned: style isn’t about getting it right. It’s about finding what you love—and wearing it like you mean it.
Once I stopped caring what others thought and started listening to myself, everything changed. Now I shop in the places that feel most aligned with my spirit: vintage and consignment shops, both online and off. That’s where I find the pieces that feel like treasures: well-made, beautifully cut, rich in texture and personality. These are the kinds of clothes that last—not just in fabric, but in meaning. You won’t find them in fast fashion or most department stores.
And when it comes to “dressing your age”? I’ll never do it. That phrase is a trap. Who decided that certain styles, colors, or cuts were off-limits once you turn 50 or 60? If I love something—whether it’s a skinny jean, a slinky lace top, or a romantic dress—I’m wearing it. Style after 50 should be about freedom, not restriction. And the only opinion that really matters is your own!
A few of my favorite designers I return to again and again: Ann Ferriday for timeless feminine shapes, Arianne for sexy-meets-elegance, and Free People for that dreamy, playful edge. For women over 60, or anyone discovering their unique style later in life, just remember—confidence looks good on everyone. Always has, always will.
