OU fan here, been to every game this year. Seen every throw he has made. Lemme tell yall now, Mateer has been trash the whole time. He has just got lucky most of his picks get dropped or they’re so badly overthrown. He is HIGHLY overrated

Mateer was definitely playing scared and rightfully so. Shouldn’t have even been out there. Accuracy issues resulting from the thumb and tape job bothering him, pulling up on runs in situations where he would normally have tried to run through a guy for extra yards. It was so incredibly blatant that the thumb was the problem. We should have ran with Hawkins and hope our defense and Hawkins’ speed could carry us. Clearly the result would have been the same because OU’s run defense against Texas is non existent the past two seasons but at least we don’t risk Mateers health and structural integrity of that thumb. Might possibly be the dumbest decision (100% without a doubt one of the dumbest) we have ever made under Venables.
