I feel like the amount of vessels in the void is because none of them are hollow, not even ghost because if a vessel had "no mind to think" as the pale king said himself it wouldnt be able to make any decisions. The pale kings mission would have failed no matter which vessel he chose because what he idealises his "hollow knight" to be is basically a dead husk

For the ones wondering…the knight having emotions or any kind of feelings is bad. Why? It means that the knight who is going to become the Hollow knight to contain the Radiance infection wont be able to be a vessel because the knight needs to be devoid of all emotion. A empty jar do to speak. Abd with something line emotions that already fill said jar that is the knight/Hollow knight the infections will leak out. Its why in the story of Hollow knight that people get sick because the previous hollow knight well…developed feelings before he became a vessel for the infection

Yall he made beings thay had no emotion, no thoughts, only the objective to keep Hallownest and it's people safe from the radiance and serve as a vessel for the radiance when the time came. The Hollow Knight showing emotions was completely unprecedented and unpredictable. The Pale King did EVERYTHING he could to save Hollow Nest, the kingdom that was created to be his entire purpose when becoming the Pale King. He was not a bad king, he was doomed to fail against all his wishes, and he was not a bad father because he was able to foster love into a being who's entire essence was void, nothingness

Non HK Players: Pale King (receiver of card) ruled his kingdom well but was threatened by a God known as the Radiance who controlled the minds of his subjects through an infection. The King planned to contain the infection in a child, The Hollow Knight, as the infection spreads through thoughts and feelings. So he wanted to create a “hollow” being with no thoughts or feelings. The joke is that by giving the Pale King a Father’s Day card (or whatever) he does have feelings, which is bad for containing the infection.
