Shunsui Sakuranosuke Jirō Kyōraku is the captain of the 1st Division and Captain-Commander of the Gotei 13. His lieutenants are his niece, Nanao Ise, and Genshirō Okikiba. He is the former captain of the 8th Division. Kyōraku is a peaceful and flamboyant man, as is evident from his manner and clothing. He wears a straw hat and a pink petaled haori over his captain's uniform. He is physically very tall and stocky, and wears both a beard and his long hair tied in a ponytail; a long lock of hair always dangles in front of the captain's left eye.
