Minimum Wage is Not Enough! This is why I refuse to work anymore. The minimum wage is meant to ensure that workers earn enough to cover basic living expenses. Yet, for millions, it falls far short. As costs for housing, food, healthcare, and education continue to rise, the current minimum wage often doesn’t meet the needs of those working full-time to support themselves and their families. Many people earning minimum wage are forced to work multiple jobs, rely on public assistance, or make difficult choices between essentials like rent, groceries, and medical care. Minimum wage has not kept pace with inflation. For example, in the U.S., if the federal minimum wage had kept up with productivity and cost of living increases, it would be much higher than the current $7.25 an hour, which has not been raised since 2009. Even in areas where the minimum wage has been increased, it often doesn’t match the true cost of living. For instance, in large urban areas, where rent alone can consume most or all of a minimum-wage paycheck, workers struggle to cover even basic expenses. Raising the minimum wage to a “living wage” would mean setting it at a level that allows workers to meet essential needs without constant financial stress. While critics argue that raising the minimum wage could lead to job cuts, studies have shown that many businesses and local economies benefit from fairer wages, as workers have more purchasing power and job satisfaction. Ultimately, ensuring that everyone who works can afford a decent standard of living isn’t just about economics—it’s about fairness and the basic dignity of work. So I quit! #burnout #costoflivingcrisis #jobmarket #budgeting
