Part 1 Parkside Protesters Apparently, on Belmont and Parkside, local seniors are protesting because the city is trying to prohibit them from parking behind their homes—something they’ve been doing for decades. Some of the protesters claim that the city is allowing developers to come in and overbuild in their neighborhoods, leaving them with nowhere to park. Now, they feel their private property rights are being threatened. Over 20 protesters were seen this morning around 10 AM, holding picket signs and standing up for the rights to their property. But is it fair that they even have to fight for what’s already theirs? Shouldn’t they have a say in what happens in their community? Shouldn’t they be considered when new building plans are approved—especially since they are the foundation of these neighborhoods? I love that they’re standing together and fighting back as one. But how can we, as a community, support them and help them maintain their peace of mind? Something as small as a parking space might seem insignificant to some, but for a senior citizen just trying to get home safely at night, it can mean everything.#philadelphia #mayorcherelleparker
