Visually OK means that your reservoir was probably full, but that doesn’t not mean that when tested the fluid is good

you don't need alignment for tire rotation

Brake fluid can be visually ok but it is a hydraulic fluid and moisture will cause it to not function properly which is why you change it at specified intervals

Brake fluid doesnt go down with time. it absorbs water however, which isn't visible just by level

Over time brake fluid absorbs moisture from the environment. That moisture goes into brake lines and can rust brake lines and other components from the inside out. It’s not always easy to visually ascertain how much dilution has happened to the brake fluid.

When you drive the car, does it feel like it needs new brakes, and when was last time you replaced brake pads and roters?

Read your owners manual, every service the car needs and how frequently it should be done is in there. Hope this helps.

The tech probably didn’t use a test strip for copper parts per million. He just saw that the level was okay and checked the green box. Happens all the time

that could also just mean your brakes are fine but the fluid itself is recommended by time as it absorbs moisture. again when your car has issues down the line from you not doing proper preventative maintenance that’s when you’ll wish you spent a bit for the fluid service vs saving a bit and spending ode for failure down the line.

As a tech they usually hire and fire the oil changing guys frequently or one moves up to a higher position ect. So the quality of work can vary drastically a lot of shops need techs to push out a lot of the bigger jobs therefore not many people stay just doing oil changes for long. I would just get a second opinion from another reputable shop and keep going back if they do an honest job and explain things clearly

Hey service advisor here! The things that were recommended by the mechanic are the things on that paper, the brake fluid change which was recommended by your advisor due to the time between brake fluid changes, the mechanic is only recommending off what he sees not the service history if they even had access to it!

Good brake pads, good rotors, and a full reservoir doesn’t mean a flush isn’t a good idea. (That’s why they marked your brakes and fluid green). Most sources will recommend every 3 or so years, even regardless of your mileage. Your other video states it’s been 4 years. It’s your car so do what you want but also they weren’t trying to scam you, they were recommending service your car could probably use. To check for yourself you can buy a test kit online, they are cheap. That will definitively tell you. Or you could check for a “squishy” pedal. The dealership is likely not using a test strip, they recommend based on time and mileage as that’s what the owners manual recommends.

2 options. by time / miles and by visual. she’s recommending but i don’t know how old the service writer is. usually younger / good service writers will just say i recommend it due to time but since it looks good. we can just monitor it.

brake fluid can also fluctuate, brake fluid holds moisture if it rains a lot of you brake aggressively they will hold debris and moisture more than normal, it is a preventative service, when past 3% moisture flush. anything under you’re ok

It’s possible that the service writer, the person who talked to you, got cars mixed up and mentioned the brakes to you when it was for another customer. The cabin filter usually gets suggested almost every oil change. These are at least common place at my shop.

Toyota Tech here. Some technicians will check millage and time since last repair, and recommended you things. However some techs who save time just look at the fluid or air filter and determine themselves it needs changed. And theres the off chance the tech didnt change that either. Alot of those boxes are PRE checked in the green to save time. If it needs changed and the tech juts eyeballed it and didnt go off the service advisor thats their fault. but do keep in mind. Techs and Service advisors are paid on COMMISSION. that means if you say yes to work we make money. if you dont we dont make money. that simple. thats why shops will try to push you(fairly and within reason) to buy things for your car

filters are due to air not time. if you drive through dirty areas they're gonna need to be changed sooner. as a service writer, paperwork is rough but your advisor should have added the brake fluid recommendation to the paperwork if it was due by time. if you are ever worried about your brake fluid you can tell with a visual inspection. if it's dark it needs to be done.

brake and brake fluid exchange are not the same thing. they won't recommend brakes in a brake fluid exchange is needed, especially is the actual brakes (pads/rotors) are good. brake fluid degrades over time, so even though it looks ok on a basic visual inspection, its still gonna be recommended because both the car manufacturer and the fluid manufacturer have time limits on usage of products. think of it like an expiration date on medication. its effectiveness wears off if its old, even if it wasn't previously used

The fluid exchange was probably recommended based on milage. I agree with what was said before, they looked and it was full so they marked it green. Mechanics are not a scam. Mechanics are the ones fixing your car. People use the work to describe everyone in the Automotive Industry that deals with their car. Yes, brake flushes are real and recommended and as a side note, depending on where you live and drive, your cabin air filter can need to be changed more often that you realize. The amount of them I pull out that are super impacted and gross is mind boggling.

only advice i have as a current worker in the field. research your vehicle by OEM standard and do it for yourself. Take the filter out yourself and do the rest on your own. That way you don't have that problem anymore. Otherwise your having them do it because you cant do it yourself.

Tech here, if I see it’s clear I’ll check time and recommend of interval, could work where the tech looks only and advisor checks interval, that’s just my guess. Engine and cabin filters at my Nissan dealership are recommended every 15k or when dirty. If you drive through a lot of dirty air like gravel, country road etc, any place that has dirty air(or smoke inside the car) your filters WILL wear out faster because they’re being strained more
