I used to be a huge hockey fan when I was kid. I kinda lost touch with it but always follow my favorite team (NY Islanders). I want to get back into it and your videos are helping me understand the game a little more. Thak You.

So if you are in the neutral zone it wouldn’t be called icing?

One thing to note is that icing does have an exception, when a team is on the penalty kill they can ice the puck without it being called since they’re already at a defensive disadvantage

I am a hockey girlie, however the one thing I can’t figure out is why someone is thrown out of the the faceoff.

Very good explication, though one thing was missed for offsides, the players skates must not cross the blue line before the puck. The body is able to be over the blue line before the puck. This allows for the forward leaning stance while speed skating. This doesn't happen often but did come up in the 2022-2023 playoffs between VGK and the Sharks. Over all I give you a 9.9/10 on your explication and will be following for more videos.

Nice explanation!I know rules can vary slightly from league to league (youth, college, pro, men’s Vs. womens, etc.). My daughter played youth hockey from age 10 through HS and one thing that always baffled me was the sometimes seemingly arbitrarily calling off of icing. I know that if it touches the stick (or any part) of a player on the other team it’s not icing. And if the ref thinks the other team could have played it before it crossed the goal line, they can waive it off. In the pros it can be a race to the puck. But are there other cases? I’ve seen it called off and none of the other spectators around me could understand why.

My fiancé grew up playing and they explained off sides as the kids as if the puck is they key to the door at the blue line! That helped it click for me.

what determines if a player crosses the blue line? is it like soccer where it’s any part of the body? or football where it’s all about your foot position?

Not to nitpick but you gotta explain delayed offsides. The one that happens when you dump the puck in the offensive zone when someone is still in the zone and then once that person gets out you can go in and get it.

Thanks for the refresher. I’m a St. Louis blues fan. I’ve been watching hockey for over five years and still struggle with the icing calls.

I always thought of Icing kinda like Intentional Grounding in football, getting the ball (puck) away to get out of a bad situation unnecessarily
