Kowloon Walled City once stood as the most densely populated place on Earth. Tucked into just 6.5 acres in Hong Kong, it was home to over 30,000 people, stacked inside 300 interconnected buildings. There were no building regulations, no central authority, and barely any sunlight. What began as a disputed military outpost became a self-contained city ignored by both British and Chinese governments. By the 1980s, most of the crime had faded, and life inside became oddly stable. Families lived there for decades. Children played on rooftops.
