@toddlerscanread: This 4 year old was able to learn this word with phonics! If your kid can blend basic words, you can explain patterns like this too. My Sight Word cards make this easy with a teaching script on the back. Check them out at toddlersread.com! #sightwords #toddlerscanread
I have Caribbean background and the way I learnt to read was brutal 😔 now seeing my son having difficulties reading and spelling it’s frustrating because I don’t think I have the patience he looses focus so quickly 🥺 I need help

This isn't a sight word. This is a phonetically decodable word. Sight words are words that do not follow spelling rules and cannot be sounded out. Words like beautiful, because, parent, and Christmas etc, are sight words or as we call them, common exception words.

Can you show examples on teaching your child how to spell long a words? Words with “a”, “ea”, “eigh”, “ay”, “ey” “ai”.

That’s literally what sight words are . They don’t follow the normal blending rules so they have to remember it . Like “the”

Teaching Children to Read :
I think you should clarify that ‘fight’ is NOT a sight word. It’s standard to decode ‘f-igh-t’ in the way shown. The ‘sight words’ are the words that cannot be decoded/ read using phonics. As a teacher for 20+ years and author of phonics books, I show parents and teachers how to teach children to read using phonics and limited sight words (I, the, to, no & go during phase 2).
