On April 26, 2003, Aron Ralston, a 26 year old climbing enthusiast, suffered an accident in Blue John Canyon in southeastern Utah. While descending a narrow canyon, a rock he was using for support became dislodged, trapping his right hand against the wall. At that moment, Ralston had not informed anyone about his climb, which led him to believe it was unlikely anyone would come looking for him. In the following days, he had to ration his limited supplies, which included 350 ml of water and two burritos, and even resorted to drinking his own urine. During this time, Ralston recorded a video diary for friends and family, thinking he might die. After three days of trying to free himself from the rock with a knife, he decided to amputate his forearm. This task was challenging because the knife couldn't cut through the bone. On the fifth day, he wrote his name and the date he believed he would die on the canyon wall and left messages for his family. The next day, he had an epiphany and realized he could break the bone by using force against it. He was able to perform the amputation using a tourniquet to stop the bleeding and a multi-tool to cut through muscles and nerves. After freeing himself, Ralston descended a steep wall with one hand and walked 13 kilometers to where he had left his car. Along the way, he encountered a Dutch family on vacation who gave him food and water and alerted the authorities. He feared bleeding to death before rescue arrived, but a search helicopter arrived shortly after. In 2010, the film

He feared bleeding to death before rescue arrived, but a search helicopter arrived shortly after. In 2010, the film "127 Hours" was released, inspired by Ralston's experience in the canyon. James Franco starred in the film, and the producers had access to Ralston's home recordings to aid in production, incorporating parts of his diary into the script. During an interview, Aron Ralston was asked if he would consider making his footage public. He politely declined the suggestion, clarifying that the video was personal and intended for his family and friends, and that he preferred it to remain that way. Despite this, a clip and a selection of audio excerpts from the recording were eventually released #aronralston #2003 #rescue #lostmedia #for #foryoupage
