This is what I’ve been saying! My theory is that Ferrari’s doing the bare minimum to stay relevant in F1 while investing in their other sports. As long as they sign high profile drivers, ride their heritage, grab a few podiums, and flirt with grey areas to keep the tifosi satisfied, they won’t invest more. Look at their WEC hypercar team literally dominated in their debut year! Ferrari has the funds, experience, and facilities to win in F1. They just choose not to. Fred can only do what he’s allowed to. The higher ups control how far the team can go. It’s been like this since after the Schumacher era.

What if they were never good. The grey areas in the 60s,70s, 80s 90s and 2000 were huge. But now more and more of the grey is gone. So for decades they won championships with the slightest cheat now they can’t. But corporate they have never done anything but that.

So basically they can’t even cheat right 😭😂😂😂.

Are Ferrari slow because they develop and build too much into gray areas, or do they rely on gray areas so much because they can’t build a proper car?

Ferrari development has definitely not been the best but it is not because they exploit ‘loopholes’. Every team utilises gaps in the regulations set by the FIA each year to maximise performance for their respective concepts. The regulations are not rules per se but an engineering framework. The issues are not the loopholes as that is point of the engineering aspect of motorsport, they are literally there to find loopholes. it is the fact that the concept chosen is not adaptable once a TD is issued as the video highlight.

evrybody in F1 use loopholes, that is what make a winnig car, The difference is political power toward the federation, something that mercedes had, e now has not anymore, that redbull had, and that now mclaren has…

@rolandeluxe: Oh Lord, the formula one was always developing into the grey zones. The teams all overtook the regulations already when they are introduced. Ferrari has a structural problem. Red Bull is unfortunatelly very strong in reacting. Mercedes was blessed that time Ross Brawn was on the team — someone already familiar with the engine concept that would remain frozen for years.

They’re the most inept team in the grid. Egocentrism and hubris galore. I didn’t realize it till this year since I’m a Lewis fan.

Yep Mercedes had the F-duct and DAS, and stayed fast without. As an aside I wonder if DAS would have helped this generation of cars with their tyre-warming issues with some teams struggling to heat the fronts without overheating the rears. 🤔

I wonder if Vasseur does not wield enough power in the team to make big changes. We just got past speculation that he was going to be ousted before his contract renewal. Jean Todt had De Montezemolo in his corner, and for instance was able to bring Nigel Stepney in (a total outsider from England) to completely revamp the trackside team.

Ferrari have been calamitous for years now before Vasseur, yet it doesn’t feel like the same level of change is happening. Fred may be too weak in his position or maybe doesn’t feel the need. 🤷♂

I agree, but also the FIA should have banned beforehand these grey areas, it’s their job to do so and in the last years they did a terrible one.

Only 5 years?? Are you sure it isn't maybe since always? 😅 Everyone exploits grey areas, but if you don't have fundamentally good engineering as your base of the design, then yea, it'll affect you a lot more. I'd say they've definitely been taking shortcuts though at least.
