@dralexgeorge: This fact about #adhd shook me and kind of makes me angry. How do you feel hearing that? #adhdawareness

Waited 18 months for an assessment… the report said I do have ADHD but they won’t fully diagnose/medicate because of my depression- but the biggest thing contributing to my depression is… yup undiagnosed and untreated ADHD

I feel too embarrassed to pursue my diagnosis because I feel like I won’t be taken seriously 🙈

I was diagnosed last year at 28, and medicated this year. It's changed my entire world.

I was diagnosed an ADHDer about three years ago and as autistic a couple of months ago. It has been life changing and hugely important in helping my children get on the assessment pathway. I don't understand why people are surprised at the increase in diagnosis when guidance for ADHD in children wasn't even formally adopted by NICE guidelines until 2006... Obviously there's a lag.

I’m worried about asking my doctors for a adhd assessment because so many people have I’m scared I’ll just get ignored and I’ve been on sertraline for 5 years and honestly think I’ve been misdiagnosed

But what causes that trend? I don't see how undiagnosed ADHD causes am earlier death? (not doubting it, just curious to why that might happen)

Dr Alex I’m 56 and my whole life I’ve tried to work out why I’m different. I have been medically gaslit for decades. I know 100% now that I’m on the Spectrum and I also have several serious autoimmune conditions that I’ve had to fight so hard to get diagnosed with. The sad truth is I’m so exhausted and I just can’t face going through another fight to be officially diagnosed neurodivergent. The trauma it’s left on me is shocking. I bet I’m not alone with this.

Does the journal state why we’re dying younger? Is it because of medical gaslighting or because of commonly occurring co-morbidities e.g hEDS, POT, depression etc.

I'm now diagnosed (I'm 27 and got diagnosed with combined adhd at 25, female). I do not know how to cope, I've tried meds and my heart went too fast and now I need ecgs before they'll try anything else...I forgot to book them in until today (it's been 6 months) and now idk what to do. If i can't take meds, what next. I cannot form habits, I'm trying but idk what to do

I think a lot of it is feeling wrong in a society that isn't built for them and being misdiagnosed for decades as a range of other things. A lot of people self medicate with alcohol, food, anything and everything to make them feel 'normal' and they're more likely to struggle with addictive behaviours.

Genuinely interested in knowing how these stats are put together? How could anyone possibly count deaths of "undiagnosed" people? Literally everyone without ADHD is undiagnosed... so how do you separate "undiagnosed" with "undiagnosed but has adhd"

I have a diagnosis from a psychologist through my uni and because it’s not considered a medical diagnosis my doctors don’t respect it so I now need to wait for however long to get any meds and on top of that I’m in wales so there’s not right too choose and I’m loosing my mind, I’m in uni and I’ve never struggled more

I’ve just been diagnosed at 31 🫠 my life’s been hell.. I’m hoping moving forward it’ll get better. I’ve found myself often thinking, I don’t want to die, but I also don’t want to live this life 🥺

Diagnosed but can’t get medication because I had DVT so they’re not willing to make a decision. Still have 12 years left to work and can’t imagine how to get there
