As a glassblower, people don’t want to pay for actual art. I know of over 100 glass artist who have quit and started working 9-5 jobs because nobody is willing to pay for actual handmade art.

In Puerto Rico in order to sell at city hosted artisan fairs you have to be certified by the state. If they catch you selling premade stuff they’ll fine you and take your license away.

I make indigenous beadwork with a pop culture icon but I also do very traditional work as well. For me it’s the vendor fees that are expensive and I don’t get a lot of opportunities to bring my work into spaces.

Going to Renn faires and seeing Amazon bulk ordered fake leather armor shit also pisses me off so much. And then they price it to match the hand made stuff because they think that will trick people into thinking it was made by them
