Also artist alley used to be in an entire wing at javitz on the north end.

Another thing about chronically ill people is that a lot of them have flare ups when they get stressed or panicked if someone faints of has a seizure in a crowd like that it is incredibly dangerous for them and the people around them

Anime nyc is not ran by Reed who runs nycc. Anime nyc is ran by the same showrunners as awesome con which is leftfield media. Also tickets are capped and some vendor tables have been removed. Only way to fix it is controlling the flow of traffic downstairs. Also it was corporate before the pandemic. Show will not crash and burn due to it being one of the largest shows and look at their sponsors. The show will always have its issues. But everyone will still attend. If you want a show with better acess and more crow friendly you do have shows like cradle con in in Long Island at the cradle of aviation museum, There was Controplis over the water in NJ (not happening again due to no fan support) There are a lot of smaller shows too. Long Island alone is over saturated. You also have Winter Con (if that is still around)

Katsucon has the same problem. The con needs to start capping tickets.

the venue itself has a responsibility in this too- they should not be allowing groups to create this kind of safety issue & help should enforce limits and change.

Anime and comic conventions breaking fire code is genuinely a piece of cake, and it drives me insane.

I’ve literally been going since the first year. I’ve had my issues with the con but I will say that it’s WAAAAAAY better than the first year and has gotten better year to year in terms of logistics. The stuff you’re talking about in terms of expanding has already happened. And guess what? More people started coming and took up that space. And I don’t know what you’re talking about with the con ever being empty. Maybe the first few years when they started Thursday’s but after a few years of that Thursday’s became just as crowded as a Friday. Maybe I’ll make my own video from my perspective on the con.

I only went on Thursday and Friday this year and neither were that bad, but they definitely need to vet certain franchises better. The Digital Circus panel needed to be in a bigger room, they were packing people in and made people stand in the back. I left it 10 mins early so I wouldn’t risk getting stuck in that crowd.

As someone who has been going since 2011 and bitching about this and no one listens to me, thank you for calling attention to it. Hopefully the con sees this and makes some serious changes. They need to start outsourcing panels again, it reached capacity issues at least last year, this year was just visibly uncomfortable

They also need to add seating somewhere. I have a Disablity and I found a prop seat and had an opportunity sit, I heard that was the only seat available. People sitting on the floor eating. We had to leave super early and miss our last panel. My 1st time and it was super disappointing disorganized.

I was shouldering people to help my sister get through the crowds, she has mobility issues, doesn’t use a wheelchair/rollator, and can easily lose her balance. The amount of people who didn’t care made me want to scream.

The show floor can’t expand any more its that whole level already. You would have to start moving venders off the show floor I am not where to stick them. I really hope they keep the loading dock clear during the show because they would need to double as evacuation route in the event of a big emergency

There wasnt even a family room this year! They combined family HQ with the gaming area. I know not everyone likes that kids come but they need a place to unwind that’s not loud and also not the quiet room since they’ll make sounds because they’re kids. My kids were completely overstimulated. I was completely overstimulated. I almost had a complete breakdown due to my anxiety being triggered from the crowds.

I mean it’s why I go to somewhat smaller cons like a nearby comic con to me that takes place in spring where there’s plenty of space for people to go around including in artist alley and the main show floor

I went back in 2016 and my costume was damaged from the mass of people and I never went back until this year. I did two lanes of the artist alley and spent the rest of the time in the tunnel.

I've been going for 10 years. the aisles on the show floor get packed so tightly it's scary in places. it's almost impossible to stop and look at a booth without getting pushed, disrupting the flow of traffic, or tripping over a kid you couldn't see in the sea of people. NYCC needs a rehaul - spread out through the whole Javits center and revamp the ticket purchase/reservation experience
