The Sitting Rising Test (SRT) There are a lot of different fitness and mobility challenges on social media that you may have seen and even performed yourself. This one has some research behind it which I found interesting. The original study was intended to find a possible correlation between the successful ability to perform the SRT and how this relates to longevity. The results were statistically significant in finding a connection. Basically, you can get a score of 10/10 if you can perform the test as shown here. For every limb/body part that is required to assist your descent or ascent back up, you lose a point. A score of 8-10 and you’re good. Less than 8 and you’re likelihood of mortality before those who scored higher was increased by half. As with any test, this one certainly had its limitations. But let’s consider getting on and off the floor as an activity that older adults tend to avoid doing, right? Remember, move it or lose it. If you stop doing an activity, your ability to do it later on in life will be limited and a domino affect will occur, other activities will also become more challenging. Hence why I promote mobility work on a daily basis. If you had difficult doing this one, work on your hip and ankle mobility. Work on your core strength.
