I cried my eyes out after my DNA came back with my mother not genetically matched to me. But my Dad was, my dad/ The confusion was and is still real. Both parents have passed

I wish adoptive parents would realize that the longer they lie to their adoptive child the deeper it’s going to hurt them.

If OP was just “handed over” and no legal paperwork, then OP isn’t adopted. Or am I misunderstanding🤷🏽♀

One of the main reasons that adoptive parents don't want to share that information, is that the adopted child ALWAYS seek a relationship with their biological parents. Adoption feels like abandonment to the child. They always want to know why. They need that acceptance from the biological parents.

I didn’t find out I was adopted until I was 19. My cousin told me! My whole family kept pressuring them, they said they’d cut the family off if they did. My cousin thought I knew. Craziest both my Aunt and a cousin are adopted.

I don't understand why adoptive parents do this. I was adopted and I don't ever remember a time that I didn't know. When I was little it made me feel extra special because my folks wanted me sooo bad that they went out and found me.

Having also done a DNA test, there were so many unexpected results when they first became popular that the companies had to put up disclaimers about the potential of it happening.

It’s so annoying that people still try to hide when a child is adopted. We know that it’s better for them to grow up knowing and having a relationship with the bio parents (if they’re healthy and able). These people wanted to steal a baby and keep it for themselves. That’s why they stopped writing letters, hid it, and refused contact. It’s gross. If they cared about the kid and not their own selfish desires, they would have done what we know is best (honesty and open communication)

I will never agree with never telling your child/ren youre adopted. this is whay causes families to break, be hinest and open with it and when they do reach out to their bio family they can keep both bc no one lied

this poor kid :( I'm sure it felt like his whole life has been a lie when he found out. I hope this doesn't damage his trust with everyone going forward too. I can't imagine how utterly speechless and broken he feels and I hope he finds a good support system. the therapy comment was amazing and I hope he leans into his resources.

If adoptive parents were family friends of the biological grandparents, and they never stayed in touch with them either? Not great family friends.

my dad was 40 when he found out he was adopted, his adopted parents only told him when other family members were threatening to tell him. He was devastated, took him a long time to be ok again. To make it even worse, his adopted mother told him over the phone 😪😪
