"do I see her as a daughter? kinda." op sounds like she's not invested into the relationship. and doesn't realize children are different. she feels like she wants a perfect child. and because she doesn't treat op a certain way, she will always be a step daughter. op has been there for 4 years already.

I think Op is being very respectful towards the moms memory and moms side of the family. She is right in the sense that they need to work on the bigger picture of the daughter feeling left out.
