There are players who just want to win and players who want to play (winning is a bonus). Neither is playing the game "wrong" but for me if you want the win that bad, take it, I'll go play with someone else.

This is almost exactly what happened to me. Roommate begged to teach me. Finally caved. He beat me while teaching. At a gaming store that weekend and someone sees me with cards. No matter how many times I said I was still learning, he wouldn't take "No" for an answer. Destroyed in 3 rounds flat. Handed my cards back to my roommate. Will not play again
