remember everybody, landlords (in the US) can't just show up and come into your apartment unannounced, with some exceptions (eg emergencies). generally, a landlord needs to give you at least 24 hours notice, but this varies by state.

glad i live somewhere where no pet policies are more of a warning rather than a law, a landlord can say "no pets" but legally cannot stop you from having pets. however if the pets cause damage then the landlord can be like "per my no pet policy i can evict/fine you now" and that holds up legally.
