The Truama of leaving behind my baby was something I was never prepared for and I even know he would likely not make it to term and did my research. But walking out with empty arms took something from me I truly feel like I can’t ever get back. I would’ve done anything to get a camera view to see my baby when I wasn’t able to be in the NICU. The long nights pumping in the dark quiet Ronald McDonald house pumping room were the darkest moments of my life. Had I been able to peek in on my baby it would’ve made a huge difference to me. I hope they can get a better system that’s simpler for nurses so you guys aren’t tied up with them. But still giving this gift of connection to parents is incredible.

We have NicView cameras in my NICU, but we have parents sign a contract saying that they won’t call the unit about their camera at all…and if they do it repeatedly despite education, we take their camera away

We’re so short staffed I can’t even imagine how many phone calls we’d have for crying babies especially our ESC ones. Thank god our hospital doesn’t have them

I can see both sides for sure. Never in a million years did I think I’d have a NICU baby as an L&D RN. The angel eye camera was my saving grace it was so nice to see my baby while I pumped for her. The night of her bowel perf the camera was off for a significant amount of time. After that event we started to freak out whenever it was off because we though something was wrong every time it was off for too long

Not a NICU nurse, but a nurse who had three NICU babies (twins first 🫠). We lived an 1.5 hrs away from the NICU where our babies were and the cameras were a God send for me when I couldn’t be there and just wanted to see there sweet little faces, but I never once called to complain about anything with those glitchy cameras. But we also had some kind of app where the nurses could send us pics and messages about the babies 24hrs a day and we had the BEST nurses who kept us updated all the time and would send us random pics and messages just to keep us involved and help us feel present when we couldn’t physically be there. I loved that more than the cameras.

I had a NICU baby & can for sure see both sides!! It would kinda freak me out if it was glitching or something, but never enough to call about it. It did give me a peace of mind at night when I would wake up and could just log on to see him. Makes me think of the owlet sock and how different people are with it too. Some people are too relaxed and put their kids in unsafe positions bc “owlet will tell us!” And then there are people that want their kid in it literally 24/7 and obsess over it. Obviously different than the NICU camera, but I feel like there’s a happy medium for both and most the time people are on one end of the extreme😂

Nicu is terrifying, especially as a first time mom. The angel eye saved my sanity at times!!! Our Nicu team was very communicative about how the camera would be off during care times and therapy times, though, so when our camera was off I was able to assume the best (most of the time!)

I think the only way I mentally survived the NICU was because of the cameras. I dont know if I'll ever overcome that trauma 🙃

the camera is the only reason I don't call non stop to check on her. if it's off or moved i don't usually call to check on her unless it's been all day.its so reassuring that if the camera is on she's ok

Nicu nurse, and I see both sides! They are nice for some parents, however we have had parents call in cause there is a light reflecting in the camera, and they call insisting they are desatting and their vitals are changing, when there is no change, and it’s something else reflecting in the camera

The grief I felt when I had to leave my babies in 2011 & again in 2015 has never resolved. There were no cameras at our hospital, but I could call at any time and check in & they would call me if anything major happened.

We had to take our cameras away because parents were obsessively calling for every bubble on the babies lips, or wanting their head turned, or when they cry while we are still finishing up our other patient 😕 it definitely needs a contract in place with it, because it’s not the healthiest option for every family

My oldest caught COVID for the first time when my NICU baby was 5 days old. We couldn’t visit for 2 WEEKS (yes, I was crashing out from the COVID fear, postpartum hormones, and not being able to see my baby). I wish we had a camera as an option. I think we only saw her like 3x in that period and only because we happened to get an intern who was willing to FaceTime us for rounds so we could see her. I was a mess.

when my baby was in the NICU we loved the angel eye camera especially since my husband had to go back to work 4 days after we had our baby. we were told not to call if we logged in and couldn’t see our baby because they might of just been doing something like a test or diaper change. it was always back on in a reasonable amount of time.
