You don’t want to use river rocks they hold water in the rocks and when around fire they could steam them explode. You want to find rock far from a river or water source

one of the things I've learned over the years camping if you think you have enough wood for your fire you don't. take what you have and triple that amount.

Just make sure you dont use rocks that have been submerged for a long time. They can split and crack and send shards flying
