Those “dialysis shirts” with zippers put patients at risk. Zipper seams can harbor bacteria, increasing infection risk near your fistula—the most dangerous threat for dialysis patients. Metal fasteners, often nickel, can cause skin allergic reactions or irritation, especially when covering a vascular access site. Anyone claiming these serve a true medical purpose is misinforming patients and fostering dangerous habits that jeopardize their health.

Some people have upper arm fistulas. and this jacket does not work because it doesn’t go up high enough on the arm.
