PIT BULL FLOWER POWER 🌸🐾 “For decades, pit bulls have been demonized by society and portrayed as hellhounds. They've become the most feared, hated, and abused of all companion animals. Some cities and even entire countries ban them, while the media persist in associating them with viciousness. This unjust reputation has sealed the fate of millions of dogs, who face prejudice around the world, languish in shelters where they are the most euthanized. In the U.S. alone, hundreds of thousands of pit bulls are euthanized every year. Since 2014, I have been taking photographs of adoptable pit bulls, for free, from all around the United States. Many had been waiting for homes for years. The portraits celebrate these dogs' inherent personality, vulnerability, and individuality and have not only led to hundreds of dogs finding loving, forever homes, but have spurred efforts to destigmatize an animal whose reputation for violence says more about us than the characters of the dogs themselves.” -Sophie Gamand @SophieGamand My mom has been inspired by Sophie's work since the start. She started fostering pit bulls as a teenager and later presented her thesis on Breed-Specific Legislation. Her passion for advocating for my misunderstood breed led her to rescuing me. Sometimes people are afraid to meet me. Sometimes they cross the street when they see me. Sometimes they judge me before I even get the chance to say hello. Every day, I try to show the world that we are not the monsters they've made us out to be. We are gentle souls with strong hearts, loyal to the core, and full of unconditional love. All we need is a chance to be seen, to be understood, and to be welcomed with open hearts. Every House Hippo deserves the chance to bloom 🤍 You can visit Sophie's exhibit in Seaport till June 2026 💐 thank you @Photoville & @The Seaport #pitbull #pitbullflowerpower #sophiegamand #dontbullymybreed
