Sometimes, these super simple tips make you go - how did I not know this... Weighing your jar just makes so much sense when you have leftover starter and want to have a general idea of how much you have to refeed, without having to then transfer it to a new jar. Just mark the weight of your empty jar on a post-it in your cupboard, or in your notes app on your phone and then when you want to use this trick, put your jar of starter on your scale and subtract the weight of your empty jar. 🙌🏻 You'll know exactly how much starter you have on hand. I'm at the point where I can often eyeball feed, but when I want a more exact number of starter and feeding ratio, I like being more accurate. And then there's times when you use up more starter than you plan to and think you've used it all. I remember a friend of mine messaging me saying she used all her starter, when in reality you can build up the smallest amount of starter with jar scrapings. It just might take longer to peak as you are starting with such a small amount and usually feeding it a higher ratio. In this video, I had 4g of starter and fed it about 100g flour/water (a bit more flour than water to make it thicker). At a 1:25:25 ratio, this is going to take probably 18 hours to peak (based on my starter and kitchen temps). So you just need to be patient and make sure you don't refeed it until it is fully peaked. Alternatively, you could feed a smaller amount so it peaks faster and then wait for it to peak, and then beef it up with another feed. I really hope you find these tips helpful!! 😊❤️🫶🏼 please let me know if you do. #sourdoughtips #sourdoughstarter #sourdoughera #sourdoughbread
