Have you explored the Channel Islands? These islands off the coast of California are full of greenery, tiny foxes, fascinating sea caves and beautiful hiking trails. It quickly became one of my favorite national parks! SAVE this guide for a future trip. 🏝️ 5 Islands make up the national park. We visited the largest island, Santa Cruz and spent one night camping. Santa Cruz and Anacapa are the only two islands open year round and tend to be the best for day trips. One island, Santa Barbara, is currently closed due to storm damage. 🛥️ You’ll need to reserve a ferry ride on @islandpackers to reach any of the islands. The ferry ride is a highlight in itself - we saw several humpback whales, dolphins and sea lions! 🛶 My favorite part was the Adventure Sea Cave tour with @islandkayaking! We went into countless sea caves and learned so much about the plants and animals on the islands from our guides. It’s pricey ($186 per adult) but worth it. They also have a shorter and cheaper option! 🥾The hiking trails on Santa Cruz were incredible too and we barely scratched the surface! We spent the day doing an 8 mile loop and our favorite view was definitely of Potato Harbor. To just reach Potato Harbor, it's 5 miles round trip. 🦊 Miniature foxes live on the islands and this is the ONLY place in the world where they’re found! They are ⅓ the size of foxes on the mainland (they’re adorable). They WILL try to get your food, so be sure to lock it up in one of the many metal bins provided by the national park service. 🏕️ If you want to camp on any of the islands, be sure to reserve in advance. On Santa Cruz, it’s about a half mile, flat walk to reach the campgrounds. The campsites are equipped with drinking water and pit toilets. ❗Whether you camp or take a day trip, make sure you pack out ALL trash (there are no trash cans here), do not feed the foxes, and stay on the trails to help preserve the plant life. Let’s keep this place beautiful! Have you explored this park yet?
