Apologies for the late upload again but finally, here is the very, very last part of the series. Henry Wilde did not survive the sinking. Even he was not the best performed officer in the night, he stayed to the end and upheld his standards of chivalry to save as much lives as he could. Like Lightoller, he too strictly enforced the “women and children first” policy to “women and children only”, nevertheless letting male passengers jump in (notable examples include 3rd class passenger Anton Kink at lifeboat 2 (which Wilde personally lowered), 2nd class passenger Masabumi Hosono at lifeboat 10 and 1st class passenger J. Bruce Ismay at Collapsible C). Although his very last moments were unknown, it is safe to say that he went down with the ship together with the captain, 1st Officer Murdoch and 6th Officer Moody. In retrospect, Henry Wilde was very flawed in the night: like Lightoller, he too shared the blame on not saving more lives by letting men into the lifeboats. In addition, being overly cautious for speculative-only reasons, despite being quick to react for the collision, he slightly delayed the start of the evacuation as well as loading the boats not to full capacity unlike at the starboard side. Had he survived, he would have taken in the same accusations as Lightoller who survived the tragedy, and possibly may impact his prospects as a future captain even though the RNR valued him a lot. However, regardless, Henry Wilde had done his duty heroically and he is regarded as one of the heroes in the night. (*To defend Henry Wilde on his actions, one got to appeal to his personality as well as the philosophy of merchant naval officers at his time.) - Thanks for all who have been keeping up with this series! I hope you guys found it interesting. From today to 21st April I will be in Germany with my friends, so I will not be posting much, but I will be trying to do as much as I can if I have time. #titanic #titanicmonth #rmstitanic #titanicstory #titanic111 #401forever #titanic2023 #titanicforever #History #historytok #historybuff #HistoryTime #historyfyp #historyfypシ #historyforyou #titanicofficers #henrywilde #henrytinglewilde #fyp #foryou #fypシ
