what we should actually change is our housing. concrete is 9 percent. that's why I teach how to build modern mud homes 😊

im not worried about the co2. maybe the fact that people in Iowa are in fact losing water.
environmental isn't just co2 emissions. but resources that people need to live being cut off.

You guys are missing the point. The point is that getting mad at AI and feeling morally superior for not using it is just a way to escape having to reconsider all of our consumption habits.

Ai is simply not necessary at all tho thats the issue. All of the carbon emission might seem like a little % but the thing is that its still huge and ai is not needed so its js ruining the enviorment for literally no reason like google exists

I don’t care about the carbon emissions; I care that the data centers are polluting local water tables in Georgia and Texas, and that these data centers are projected to consume more electricity in 2026 than Japan.

the meat/dairy industry ALONE produces more carbon emissions than the entire transportation sector but no one wants to talk about that because steak is yummy lol

My main issue with AI has always been that it is making people undermine developing skills and devaluing their humanity as a whole. I personally have multiple issues with it and will always hate it.

The difference is that things like transportation and industry/construction are required to keep the world turning. AI isn’t.

Its not just the emissions it’s the water use and power use and the predicted use increase that will come with larger models

No one’s worried about carbon emissions when it comes to AI. Water is the primary concern as are electricity costs

Netflix has a bigger environmental impact than AI. Yet none of these people complaining about AI will stop using it

i am a data engineer, i can't remember a single person saying data centers are bad for the environment, until ai got mainstream. ppl only use this argument cuz they hate ai replacing their repetitive job, and they r too lazy to learn a skill or 2 to get a normal job.

I am so glad someone said it. People who's only argument is that ai is bad for the environment are virtue signalers, they just want to feel superior

I thought the environmental impact had something to do with water not carbon emissions when it comes to AI?
