This was literally me. My dad encouraged my interest in the punk scene because he wanted me to be like him - his cool guy persona was very important to him. He gave me cigarettes and alcohol and even his pills to sell (and take.) It wasn’t until I dated a guy just like him who progressed the abuse into physical abuse and ended up having to escape and was briefly homeless that I woke up from it, and drew the parallels to how I had gotten there.

When I turned my rebellion to revolution, my narc dad basically used his permission of my rebellion as ammo to justify why I was wrong. “I let you do whatever you wanted” 🙄

I hope to flow through the spectrum from rebel to revolutionary. Currently, I am more rebellious out of spite and fun rather than revolutionary for change and growth. My parents certainly stunt my growth.
