SIDE ARM CIRCLES If you have shoulder pain, rotator cuff problems, upper body pain or spasticity, improving the movement in your shoulder joint (called your glenohumeral joint). Often, the shoulder feels most unstable when it is out to the side of your body. A really great drill to improve shoulder stability and upper body strength is the SIDE SHOULDER CIRCLE. The KEY to making this exercise effective is to CREATE TENSION in your shoulder joint. It is super easy to just spin your arm around and not activate any of the muscles surrounding your shoulder joint. Therefore, I want you to imaging holding onto the handle of a BIG HEAVY WHEEL and using your shoulder muscles to turn that wheel. Keys to the exercise: - Move slowly. - Create constant shoulder joint tension. - Move only in pain-free ranges of motion. This is one of my go to shoulder activation drills.
