The spiritual world is REAL. When someone commits such atrocities there is no sense of reality. Just impulse and whatever distorted reality the spirit of rage, cruelty or whatever spirit is manipulating the persons will, judgement or inhibitions uses to justify the actions. Once the person is caught, the spiritual influences/entities leave and this is their reaction: a mix of bitterness, rage, some times no realization of what happened or reaction at all.
