ROBERT HUTCHINS :
They have to make enough to pay the CEO's 6 figure salary before the charity gets anything.

I've had this argument so many times in charity shops, may as well talk to a brick wall, eyes are open but there's no one there.

Charity shops shouldn’t use Vinted and eBay as a price guide as they don’t have the same volume of customers.

if everything was £1 they would save loads of time figuring out prices , they wouldn't have to turn stock away and people would ABSOLUTELY spend more in the shop

I’m a charity shop manager. We are a local hospice and we aren’t closing any. Infact we’ve opened 3 more . Our prices aren’t that high tbh and clothes fly out. I get clothes out all day long as the prices are low. Them that are out of date then go to our clearance 99p store. I won’t even shop at places like oxfam cancer research etc as the prices aren’t discusting.

I would have rather given my cash to a charity shop than vinted before I saw this. How can volunteers have targets? Why don't the staff just say No! This is a charity shop trying to compete with vinted and eBay. We need to underprice them to get more people in the door and advertise as such! They have marketing budgets!!

People will go into charity shops regularly if there is a chance of finding a bargain. If all the prices are the same as Vinted or eBay, what's the point of going in?.

I have been saying this for the past two years. They now won’t let you try things on as they suffer shop lifting?!?! … yet everything they have was free to them. So you can’t try on but if you buy and take home and it doesn’t fit they will only give you a credit note(and we are supposed to be grateful for that!)

If you sell it too cheap you devalue the stock. Also resellers are destroying charity shops and want everything dirt cheap, as they want to make a profit! Preloved online shopping Vinted etc is also having a big impact.

I’m am ex charity shop mgr…I can tell you half the reason shops are failing is from too many rules and specs from higher up, I tried all sorts but just wasn’t allowed so I gave up. I’m now a Vinted re seller 👌

Ex Charity Shop Manager here. You don't 'manage' your shop. You spend hours steaming second hand Primark basic t-shirts, to sell for more than the brand new price. You spend days on the computer analysing KPIs. You spend weeks trying to recruit volunteers that are mostly classed by societies as 'unfit for work'. You get named and shamed, over zoom meetings, for being one of the lowest income shops in the region. You get reprimanded for having a sale rail. You spend your days off rubbing rags together to try and make a diamond. Big named charities are infact just greedy businesses now. I'm so glad not to be a part of that sham anymore 🙌

Why don’t the charities make their own vinted or ebay account and that way they have double ways of trying to sell their item and yes they need to start discounting things that don’t sell in a few weeks
