I have read alchemised now twice. After the first time reading it, I had very similar feelings. Now a few months later (I got to read it early) I have to say the less I compare, the more it grows on me. The more time I have to think about the world building, the less overcrowded it appears. Many things that felt randomly assigned first now seem to click together.

I read manacled years ago and completely forgot what was in it. So when I read Alchemised i was not comparing it to Manacled. I dived into blind. So when I finished Alchemised, it gave me such a huge impact and the same feeling when I finished Manacled years ago. I was able to immerse myself with the Alchemised world and love the magic system Sen made. That is why I suggest to read Alchemised instead of Manacled now. Because if Manacled is still so fresh in your mind, you wouldn’t be able to separate the two.

I feel like she needs to do prequel to alchemised. For Manceled, we know the whole story of why every thing happened. It’s like we are dropped into the middle of war and already so much happen. With Harry Potter world we had 7 books on what occurred.

It’s a 5⭐️for me I found it easy to separate it from Manacled and I honestly thought it was even better than Manacled though I will agree that the ending was rushed. I really wanted more to happen in the final part

I loved it but agree with all your thoughts- I don’t think I could separate the two to do a proper review as I was so influenced by Manacled (I reread a few times a year since 2020), I supplemented gaps with the fic and couldn’t have cared about the side characters. The emotional impact came from history with the story.

The one thing I wish this book had was an index or glossary. I feel like other high fantasy books have it especially with complex magic systems, because there was a lot of information to sift through.

I haven’t read manacled and am not a fantasy reader in general but I decided to read this and I have to say I like it! I’m almost done but I think the characters are believable and the world feels complete; I think basically half of the first section before the time jump could have been scrapped as well as huge chunks of the middle. But overall I find it oddly likeable, despite how dark it is.

i read alchemised (without knowing anything about manacled), finished it and got into a bit of a slump 😺, after a week i tried reading manacled, i heard so many good reviews and was really excited but its been so HARD to get into, sad to say i’m not enjoying it as much as i thought i would

I read manacled years ago so maybe I’m biased but the relationship between Helena and kaine wasn’t well written. To me it felt like I read manacled again with different characters I didn’t rlly know :/

I agree! I think the book needed more editing, but overall my thought is that I think because it was a fanfic made into an original story I think some of the worldbuilding and characters really lacked depth because in the original fic it would have already been understood/ explained and the author needed to now fill in all those backgrounds for the original story to be published
