I shampoo twice because I wash my hair every three days and it’s full of oil and dry shampoo. If I don’t, my hair isn’t properly clean

if this is more recent it might’ve come from an interview in R29 or somewhere like that with a cosmetic chemist who talked about shampoo efficacy & how the direction to repeat was taken off when shampoo labeling got more crowded & standardized. she specifically said washing twice was better!!

also water hardness. the minerals in hard water interact with surfactants in a way that can make them less effective which means the same shampoo may not give the same results with different water.

I have dry scalp and even drier skin. I shampoo once thoroughly, take my time make sure I get all areas of my scalp, rinse and hair mask for 5-7 min. That’s it. Most of you don’t need more than once. Jz use a clarifying shampoo once every 4 washes or so and you’ll be fine

hair stylist here! I 💯 agree! when clients ask me how often they should shampoo (insert eye roll)...when and if it's dirty boo boo. if you've got a $hit ton of product in your hair and your using a gentle shampoo and it doesn't take out all the gunk, wash it again. you can't fix it 🧐

Definitely agree! To add, i think because sulfates are generally avoided, i think people (especially those that live where there is hard water) find that the have to shampoo twice even with "harsher" shampoos like clarifying shampoos
