It is deflection in the simplest terms yet so typical of a politician to speak out both sides of their neck. Next year, when it's election time watch how many people speak of the other side of their neck because they're chasing votes. However, to get back to the topic.Yes, the police should be working with law.Enforcement regardless of title to ensure the safety of the citizenry. but this is what they don't want to tell you.... The police on a city level work directly for the mayor and the state police work directly for the governor. So if they don't want them to do it, then they don't do it.
