@watch.unseen: In January 2011, Canadian nurse Nicole Moore was enjoying her last day of vacation in Cancún, Mexico, when her life changed forever. After finishing a game of beach volleyball, she waded into waist-deep water to rinse off when two bull sharks approached the shore. Jet skiers tried to warn her, but before she could react, one of the sharks attacked, and bit into her left thigh. As she tried to swim to safety with only her arms, the shark circled back and clamped onto her left arm, dragging her under the water. In a desperate act, Nicole bravely punched the shark on the nose until it released her, though she was severely injured. Fortunately, a nearby jet-ski pulled her to shore, where bystanders, including nurses, worked quickly to stop the blood loss with improvised tourniquets. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors fought to save her life during hours of surgery. Nicole survived but lost her left arm, and doctors performed multiple reconstructive operations on her leg to fight infection and repair tissue damage. Her recovery was long and painful, but she never gave up. Just two months after the attack, she walked out of the hospital determined to reclaim her life. Nicole returned to work as a nurse, raised her two daughters, and dedicated herself to supporting shark attack survivors and advocating for ocean conservation.
