And I thought he wasn’t paying attention during our Paleolithic Era history lesson 😂 Although I’ve been trying to follow the Charlotte Mason style of homeschooling for the past year, I never really claimed to BE a Charlotte Mason homeschooler for one main reason… Narration! Dun Dun Daaaaaah😱😂 Narration was like a 4 letter word in our household met with dread and fear for my son. 🤬😡😪 It is the ability for a child to tell back in their own words what they learned from a passage that has been read to them, typically immediately after the reading. It can be done verbally, through written words or drawing. It is to ensure that the child has an understanding of the text. However my son has adhd and autism so narration “the Charlotte Mason way” was always a struggle for him. It was hard for him to narrate immediately after our read aloud. Which made me worried a little because I wasn’t sure if he was fully comprehending our lessons. However, I found that later on during the day (usually at dinner time) or a few days later or weeks even, something will happen that will remind him of what he learned and BOOM 💥 he turns into a narration machine! Then relate what he’s talking about to something he’s interested in to help the lesson stick (like referring to the weeds he used as a “pickmin” in this case). We learned about the cave drawings of the Paleolithic people over 2 weeks ago, who knew that finding charcoal on our nature walk yesterday would prompt him to create his very own “cave drawing”. It just shows the importance of “spreading a feast”, in terms of the different subjects and good literature that you present to your children in your homeschool. You honestly can’t predict what they will find interesting or enjoy (even though while you’re teaching it, they may look disinterested in that moment😜). . . . #charlottemasondrawing #charlottemasoneducation #homeschoollife #autismacceptance #autism #narration #naturewalk #thanksitsoldnavy Do you follow the Charlotte Mason method of homeschooling?
