@lukesgoldies: If you’re using the same exact heating element, then yes it’s absolutely more efficient to heat the water directly, then to heat the air and then have that warm air and then heat the water. However, resistance electrical heating is the most expensive form of heating, my solar panels could not keep up and my battery will drain in hours. Burning diesel is far cheaper than resistance electrical heating #heating #diesel #electric #fish #greenhouse

If you use warm water you won't need heaters. Hope this helps 👍

Electric resistance heater are not inefficient they are pretty close to 100% efficient (if you account for the heat generated by the cable it's actually 100%). The price of electricity is higher per kwh compared to diesel - that's the crazy thing

Im no expert but I also feel like the air makes a better buffer between the thermal battery that is the water and the air outside, and keeping that buffer at a consistent temp helps the energy from leeching from the water as fast

you need a diesel water heater , consumes only 1 gallon / 2h and is 10kw

install a heat pump, steep investment but it will be way cheaper to run

get you a small car radiator to blow the diesel heater through and use a small electric water pump to make a better transfer of heat! idk if it would make it that much more efficient but would be an interesting project anyway!

build a radiator to pump the water through then use that heater to push hot air through it and that may be more efficient

why dont you use a cheap mini split AC instead to heat the room? That will cut the electric bill by 75%. I dont know what diesel and a kwh of electricity costs in your country, but here is 1.60 per liter and 0.25 per kwh. burning diesel at 100% efficiency would generate roughly 10kwh of heat. so 16c per kwh. a heatpump like a mini split pushes 4kwh of heat for every kwh consumed. so 6 cents per kwh.

Water absorbs extreme amonts of heat compared to air. It takes way way way more energy to heat water than air. Thats why you can boil water in a plastic bottle or bag over a campfire

Have you ever considered installing and outdoor wood boiler and then running pipe under the ground to your green house? I’m not sure if the wood cost would be cheaper for you, but it save a ton on heat using my boiler! Downside is chopping and stacking wood sucks

hook some solar panels hooked directly to some 24 or 36v water heater heating elements. obviously you will want a thermostat controlling a relay but you won't have the loss of converting to 120 then running heating elements
