Queen Elizabeth II Spoke these Words at Waitangi 6th February 1963:
"Whatever may have happened in the Past and Whatever the Future may Bring, it remains the Sacred Duty of the Crown TODAY as in 1840 to Stand by the Spirit of the Treaty of Waitangi and ensure the Trust of the Maori People is NEVER BETRAYED."
In a Speech from the Throne, 2nd May 2015, Queen Elizabeth II to apologize and return all Maori land, announced that all land taken by her representatives from Maori will be returned.
"It has come to my attention that many of my representatives and those who spoke on behalf of the Crown some 170 years ago, did so without Royal Assent nor Authority, leaving it to me to rescind all land transactions, confiscations and the like to be reversed, starting with my Maori People in New Zealand. Many of my representatives were playing up and so it is for me to correct their behaviour, as befitting a monarch. We will start in the North Island, giving back all of the land taken there, before making our way to the South Island, the Chathams and then over into the Pacific, Australia and Canada. It’s our intention to give back all of these wrongfully taken lands to the indigenous people, before my son Charles is made King" said Her Majesty.
