Great points! Very small note, saying “these days” implies there was a time in the past where close family members didn’t behave this way which is categorically untrue. Close family members have historically always been most likely to commit these crimes. It’s not a recent phenomenon.

my mom neverrrr let me sleep over anyone’s house growing up, now as an adult and a soon to be mother i understand it completely. don’t trust just anyone with your kids. the world is too scary

If I may add. Driving. My kids are teens. I do not allow them in a car with a new driver. I didn’t realize most parents aren’t adding the new drivers to their policy’s. While teaching my kids to drive I install in them the only driver I trust on the road is myself, always be on the lookout.

Big on the secret thing. We do surprised cuz they have an end date. We don’t do surprises, and we damn sure don’t do “don’t tell mommy/daddy” you IMMEDIATELY tell mommy

I have a friend who says her kids don’t have to hug others. When I visit there oldest would come sit next to me and would hug me or rap his arms around me if we were watching tv. I don’t force it. I can respect her wishes. But it did make me feel good he trusted me.

I agree with all of this. I am a “gentle parent” though. I don’t whoop my kids but I think some people have a misunderstanding of gentle parenting.
