SNAP worker here. Please do not call your local office and take it out on the caseworkers. They are not in charge. Call your local senator or congressman. They are.

Never needed assistance and my husband and I do very well, but food and health care should be basic human rights.

some of these case workers are real nasty to the people who are receiving food stamps I witness it for myself a few times not saying it's you but a lot of your coworkers look down on them and talk to them crazy Ijs

I am petrified for November, as a senior who relies on snap every month for my groceries. I will not call and yell at my caseworker. it's not her fault. they are already overwhelmed, they don't need us yelling at them.

okay then make this make sense. I have friends they are also a family a 4 just like my family of 4. my husband makes 16 per hour and currently I'm unemployed. my friends husband makes 25 per hour and the mom is also unemployed. they get 1200 a month in food stamps, my family only gets 300 a month in food. how is that fair and why is the system so broken. please explain how this is logically okay

The mental exhaustion we go through. I need people to understand it’s not us. It’s policy! Policy! Policy!! We can only do what Policy Allows

I enjoyed my years as a food stamp , cash aid, and medical case worker. At one point i had 400 cases to manage each month. People do get angry when it comes to their money and healthcare but it makes it easier to keep in mind that their frustration and anger most likely comes from fear. Fear that their kids won’t have a roof over their heads. Fear that they won’t be able to purchase the formula they need or the life saving medicine. I would hear them out and then tell them I understood their anger and i want to help them. But there’s things i needed them to do so that I could do what i needed to do. Then I needed them to stop calling and asking for updates because if all 400 of my families called each day, I would spend all my time talking on the phone and not processing their benefits. If they want me to work faster, they need to let me focus on WORKING and stop calling to yell. After a while, they knew the drill. They knew I would get their stuff to them on time if they did what I asked and also stopped calling everyday. Mutual respect and understanding helps build a relationship of trust. When things did go wrong, they knew it wasn’t my fault.
