Hi Gina! Is there a preferable tense when writing in first person? This is my first time writing a novel in first person, and I keep bouncing back between using present or past tense.

I would love to hear your take on how to write a novel told in a police interrogation/interview style. MC is accused of a crime in opening chapters then rest of story is the MC’s version of events. Similar to Seven Husbands style but psychological thriller ☺

For a tragedy does the main character have to start proactive, becoming more reactive as the story progresses? As in is that an expected convention? I’m writing a tragedy but had planned to have the character start reactive and become proactive. But the proactive-ness comes with a reduction in their competency because they make poor decisions and are driven by their fatal flaw that they struggle to overcome.

Is it common for an agent to reject you for things that are easy fixes? Like chapter titles, a character’s name, etc. I’m an overthinker about to enter the query trenches 😅

how do you feel about Save the Cat (novel edition)? Not as a formula, but as a framework or guide?

Pinch 2 on your beat sheet, does that correlate with what other plotting systems call the midpoint turn?
