2 1/2 hr study; READ CAPTION; few clar: 1. this was more of a vent post, please be civil and discuss politely. i did not mean for this to get so much attention. 2. realism from imagination is impressive. 3. no, digital art does not hand you the skill, and i actively avoided color dropping and liquify to test myself in this study. it's not like ai where you can type a prompt and generate an image. 4. have done traditional for far longer than digital and have studied realism for a long time; will post proof later 5. i acknowledge this is semirealism leaning realism, i did not realize how impressionistic my strokes were when i posted it, i called it realism because it was close to the photo with no changes to proportion or stylization except for color a little bit for color contrast 6. i was talking about realism as in trying to imitate life, not the art movement or realistic styles, moreso the base of the art fundamentals, sorry if that was confusing 7. idid not mean to disparage anyone or claim i was superior, don't take my words personally 8. i made this because i was frustrated after doing a heavily referenced photo study that had little resistance, and was venting my frustrations as someone who had been doing realism their entire life and been taught realism was the only way to draw while seeing realism pieces achieve more prestige that achieved prestige bc they were realistic and made to feel inferior to draw stylized art that i genuinely enjoyed, and when i heavily referenced a photo and tries to be as close to it as i could while prioritizing speed, it felt laughably easy which is why i said it wasn't impressive: i don't consider this piece impressive in terms of skill 9. it's cool that you judge art based off of expression but imo art is objective in skill and subjective in interpretation and preference. what impresses me will not impress you [original description: esp applies to hyperealism which doesn't impress me as someone who has done realism in art classes, all you really need is values and copying; the study felt too easy because all you needed to do was copy and match the reference, it was mostly just experimenting w brushes and trying to do things fast. finding the colors for a desaturated photo was hard, overall tried to be very loose and focused on big picture #rkgk #digitalart #fyp
