2 things: 1) pay off the mortgage; 2) ditch that luxury vehicle. Get a car that's cheaper to maintain. 👌🏾

When I lived in Jamaica, I had a very Old Sagicore advisor. One of the pieces of advice he gave me was that you don't have to follow the script to go against the grain. A house is not a must, so don't build a house for kids and travel when you are young. When I asked him why not a house, he said he spent his life paying for his houses and now he's old, he can not do much with life. He saidI was never to feel guilty for not owning a house, he said rent or lease, the bigger problems are not yours. Kids grow up and find their own life. That sat with me for 15 years.

Firstly, you stay in a house for 8 years max, sell it and retrieve the equity built in the house... Mortgage your second house, but this time with higher down-payment so monthly payments are lower compared to you income... With your income that increased, you can retire that new mortgage in 10- 15 years. If the house too big, RENT out a section. Too many ways to mitigate this big problem they speak of...

Do you know that there are people in portmore paying 6000 dollars mortgage right now. Saying this to say the value of money changes overtime. After 10 years your mortgage will feel very cheap to pay. And if you want you can pay off your mortgage very early is 3 years if you like.

I wanted to be an accountant for many years. It came naturally to me all through my school years! finally got an accounting job, did it for less than a year and RAN!!! It drained the life out of me! I do still love accounting, but as a career, nope! way too much stress and it can be very dull.

Great advice to consider but everyone has their own experiences and therefore especially for persons who aspire for home ownership, mortgage is the only way. The more sensible thing to do is buy where you can hold for a few years and sell and use the appreciation to invest in somewhere newer

Have any of them suggested what they would have done differently if they had a chance to do over? It's not a general rule of thumb I would say to not have a mortgage, sure in Ja u can build slowly until ur done and have zero mortgage, but places like US, Canada, England that's not feasible or allowed. That said, you have to pay to live somewhere. Sure, a house is expensive to own, but in the end, it's still somewhere you have equity in. If you rent for all your life, rental cost will follow inflation and cost of living, but a mortgage gets less expensive over time if u dont stretch it out further. In the end, all the monies you've paid for rent over time built equity for someone else. That said, though, I am interested in what these people retiring see as better options🤔
