I’m thinking of writing a story but I need some really specific knowledge is it ok if I use it for facts like “can I have a detailed description of different rules in the fuedal system during this time period in this place”

ChatGPT can’t write a book that’s not what it’s for. I tested it not because I wanted to use it. I tested it because I’m so sick of vids about it. ChatGPt said it can’t write a full book. It said it can help outline or brain storm but it can’t write a book. As far as em dashes. My human editor inserted them into my books. That isn’t an indicator that AI was used.

So, this is my question. Is it wrong to use ChatGPT to help edit something that you’ve written? Strictly do line edits with out changing anything? Just looking at grammar?

I use ChatGPT for feedbacks on some chapters and strictly say that i don’t want suggestions or edits on what I have written. It is soooo much more validating in the end when YOUR book comes from only your mind.

I use ChatGPT to help brainstorm or research a topic deep. Then I always ask for it to explain like I know nothing and you are my mom telling me, so I can find my own words to explain XYZ

I’m just tired of everything screaming “AI!” At everything and saying it’s obvious, when in reality it could just be that a particular person is struggling to write specific things and don’t have the skillset to look pro. Example: I designed a bookcover and people asked me if it’s AI and it’s tiring when I took the pictures and edited the whole thing myself

I did that once. I write much better than that.

I’m about to publish and started removing all my em dashes, something I used forever -and actually I’ve changed my mind I’m sick of this AI debate

I agree with this take, however, it would be beneficial for you to recommend how people could get the skills required to write compelling pieces themselves instead of using AI

I haven't written a book, but want to, I've had ideas for stories before google was a thing but didn't know where to start so here's some of the things that I've asked GPT:
-"give me examples of how a chapter progresses and what kind of structure it should follow using detailed explanations."
-"What’s the difference between theme and message?"
-"give me examples of worldbuilding that effects plot and character instead of it being background set dressing,"
-"how do I structure Fast-Paced dialogue in a long conversation between multiple people."
And I feel that these examples have been incredibly helpful in allowing me to get more tailored responses to how I write.
That's when I feel GPT is doing good work as an actual language model.

How was it obvious? I once got an ARC that I suspected was written by AI (at least partially) because it was very… I don’t know, repetitive and shallow? I didn’t mention this to the author but I said I will not be providing a review because the book needs more work.

To be devils advocate tho….i had someone who didn’t even buy my book tell me they thought it was written by AI. Well it was written back in 2017 before AI was really a thing. And I was devastated. Ok so if my work isn’t amazing that’s fine but the accusations are hurtful. Are people just saying things they don’t like is written by AI?

OK, I see why now. I don’t even know if I even want to go and find an editor if this is what editors do. Makes me really uncomfortable because I’m autistic and my work might come off as flat.

So I use it, but I use it to summarize plots for books in my genre I’m writing. There’s so many books and I work 50-60 hours kn my main job, so it has been helpful! It I would never use it for brainstorming or dialogue, etc
