If we touch water heater, water heater realizes it’s been touched and water heater throws fit. We treat water heater like it doesn’t exist. Water heater prefers it this way.

plumber here. instead of turning it off and draining it empty and refilling it just hook the hose to it and open the valve at the bottom and flush the heater for 10 minutes until the water clears. then turn the valve off and disconnect the hose and you're done. simpler and more effective.
